In Memoriam

Olive Houghtaling, the mother of Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling (D-Neptune), died on May 11 of complications related to COVID-19.  She was 91. Houghtaling worked for the Neptune Board of Education into her eighties, serving meals to students.  She was a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church.

Mary Hall, who worked for the Newark and Metuchen police departments and worked as an election day poll worker in both municipalities, died on May 13.  She was 89.

Edwin Laubach, Jr., who served on the Middlesex County Veterans Committee, died on May 12.  He was 86.  Laubach served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and spent 30 years as a public school teacher.

Chuck Kappenman, who was involved in progressive politics, died on May 14.  He was 78.
