Gary Kroessig, who served as the public information officer for the Essex County Board of Freeholders from 1991 until his retirement 2016, died on April 7.  He was 68.

He later served as a top aide to Assemblyman Ralph Caputo (D-Nutley).   Caputo had served on the freeholder board while Kroessig was their staffer.

In 1994, Kroessig was a Democratic candidate for the Lincoln Park Borough Council.  In a heavily Republican year – Democrat Lorelei Mottese lost re-election to Republican David Baker by 400 votes, Kroessig came within 200 votes of winning.

He served as the vice chairman of the Lincoln Park zoning board for six years.

Kroessig is survived by his mother, sister and nephews.
