Ann Ferguson, a fixture in Linden politics and the New Jersey statehouse for many years, died on December 31 after a brief illness. She was 90.
During an era when secretaries acted as chiefs of staff, Ferguson exercised considerable political power in Linden while serving as personal secretary to Mayor John Gregorio.
She was a legislative aide when Gregorio served in the State Senate and served as an aide to Assemblyman Thomas Deverin (D-Carteret).
During her 47-year career in Linden City Hall, Ferguson served as executive director of the Linden Housing Authority for thirty years before retiring last year. She also served as executive director of the city’s housing choice voucher program.
A public housing apartment building in Linden is named the Ann J. Ferguson Towers.
Predeceased in 2018 by her husband of 62 years, Frank, Ferguson is survived by her daughter, Moni, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on January 14 at 10 AM at the Divine Mercy Parish in Rahway.
