Markwayne Mullin says N.J. pols seeking ‘fundraising clicks,’ denies hunger strike at Delaney Hall

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin said appearances by Democratic officials at the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark are “nothing more than a political stunt by New Jersey sanctuary politicians for fundraising clicks.

“There is no hunger strike at Delaney Hall. There are no subprime conditions,” Mullin said in a social media post. “Dozens of New Jersey sanctuary politicians chose to spend their Memorial Day weekend smearing ICE law enforcement. They should be thanking our law enforcement for removing these murderers, pedophiles, rapists, and drug traffickers from their state.”

U.S. Senator Andy Kim was pepper sprayed by ICE officials at the privately-run Newark facility on Sunday.  Gov. Mikie Sherrill was denied access to the facility. Six House members —  Rob Menendez (D-Jersey City), Nellie Pou (D-North Haledon), LaMonica McIver (D-Newark), and Analilia Mejia (D-Glen Ridge) – were present at protests.  They slammed Homeland Security for the hunger strike, with U.S. Senator Cory Booker saying the “conditions there are deplorable.”

“Would these sanctuary politicians like to house these criminals in their homes or have them as neighbors?” Mullin asked.  “We need these sanctuary politicians to stop peddling this garbage and cooperate with us to get these criminals out of their state.”
