Corey Wolkenberg assumed the role of Department of State chief of staff on Monday as Jasaun Boone departs for an unspecified new job opportunity, according to a release.
Wolkenberg has worked under Boone as deputy chief of staff since 2021—Boone has been in the role since Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way joined the cabinet in 2018.
“I am deeply grateful for Jay’s confidence in me and thank Lieutenant Governor Way for entrusting me with this role,” Wolkenberg said in the release. “I look forward to what we’ll accomplish together over these next 18 months.”
Boone oversaw the New Jersey Business Action Center and spearheaded projects promoting tourism during his time in the role.
“Since January 2018, Jay has led the Department through numerous challenges and milestones demonstrating an unwavering commitment to serving the people of New Jersey. I am deeply grateful for his years of service,” Way said.
Wolkenberg started as a legislative aide for then-Assemblyman Raj Mukherji (D-Jersey City) in 2015, later becoming his chief of staff in 2018. He joined the Department of State in 2019, starting as director of legislative affairs before his promotion to deputy chief of staff.
