Debate Night: Six hours of coverage starting at 5 PM

A livestream broadcast of the New Jersey Globe, On New Jersey and Rider University Democratic Gubernatorial Primary debate will include pre-debate coverage and a post-debate panel hosted by Ken Rosato, beginning at 5 PM.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, Rep. Josh Gottheimer, Rep. Mikie Sherrill and former Senate President Steve Sweeney will face off in a substantive debate focused on three specific issue topics: Affordability and Taxes; Education; and Public Transportation and Development from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM.

You can watch the debate on the New Jersey Globe website, and on YouTube, Facebook Live and X (formerly Twitter).  The debate will also be available with Closed Captioning in English and Spanish.  Links will be posted later.  On Monday, an audio version of the debate will be available on Spotify, Apple, Google and iHeart Radio streaming platforms

Among the pre-debate guests: South Orange Mayor Sheena Collum, who would become the Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor if Fulop wins the nomination; Gloucester County Democratic Chairman Chad Bruner, representing Sweeney; Baraka campaign spokesman Kabir Moss; Gottheimer campaign manager Chelsea Brossard; Sherrill campaign spokesman Sean Higgins; and Deb Cornavaca of the New Jersey Education Association, representing Sean Spiller.

Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, who is hosting the debate at the Essex County Donald M. Payne, Sr. School of Technology in Newark, will appear on the pre-debate show, along with Dan Bryan and Alex Wilkes, who write the weekly Stomping Grounds column for the New Jersey Globe.

A post-debate panel hosted by Rosato will include: Collum, State Sen. John McKeon (D-West Orange), representing Sherrill; State Sen. John Burzichelli (D-Paulsboro), representing Sweeney; Brossard; and former Star-Ledger columnist Mark De Ionno, representing Baraka. 

Bryan and Wilkes will also appear on the post-debate show.

Press gaggles with each of the six Democratic candidates for governor, including Spiller, will be aired on the livestream.

The pre-debate show will also include features created by On New Jersey’s Lisa Marie Falbo include a behind-the-scenes look at debate preparation, and some background on the Essex County Donald M. Payne, Sr. School of Technology.
