Fort Lee councilman emerges as leading candidate for open 37th district Assembly seat

Paul K. Yoon, a Fort Lee councilman and leader in the Korean American community, has become the leading candidate for an open State Assembly seat in the 37th district.

Yoon would become the first Asian American to represent a district that has seen a strong growth of Asian residents over the last two decades.

He would likely replace one of the two incumbents, Gordon Johnson (D-Englewood) and Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Englewood), depending on who prevails in the race to succeed retiring Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg.

A past president of the Korean American Association of Fort Lee, Yoon is a former assistant Essex County Prosecutor and worked as a special assistant to Washington, D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams.

He is a partner at Florio, Perrucci, Steinhardt, Cappelli, Tipton & Taylor.
