Senator Cory Booker toured Bayonne on Day 4 of his annual tour of all 21 Jersey counties, which included Ocean, Hudson, and Essex counties Monday.
Booker visited a UPS Automation Facility, the Bayonne Dry Dock, and the Cape Liberty cruise terminal in the afternoon with Rep. Rob Menendez (D-Jersey City), Assemblyman William Sampson IV (D-Bayonne), and Assemblywoman Barbara McCann Stamato (D-Jersey City). Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis joined the legislators on the tour, which consisted of waterfront industries.
The UPS center opened last year and employs more than 1,000 people, processing more than 500,000 packages daily.
“I am blown away by the amount of economic activity happening in Bayonne, which has created hundreds of jobs, and strengthened the local community,” Booker said. “I would like to thank Mayor Davis for his hard work and leadership that has helped create so much opportunity here in Bayonne.”
Cape Liberty is one of the largest cruise terminals of the Northeast, servicing more than 800,000 passenger departures and arrivals each year.
“Throughout every neighborhood of Bayonne, we see a strong, vibrant economy at work,” Menendez said. “I’m grateful that Senator Booker, Mayor Davis, our local partners, and I were able to witness the impacts of historic funding from the federal government here in the 8th District.”
Earlier in the day, Booker visited Little Egg Harbor to announce three funding disbursements to New Jersey-based veterans programs. Two awards totaling $547,000 will allow the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars to start a veterans mental health and outreach program, and another $600,000 to the New Jersey State Veterans Chamber of Commerce to launch an online platform for disadvantaged and diverse small businesses.
“Our veterans have sacrificed everything for our country, and it’s our duty to ensure they have access to the resources and support they need,” Booker said. “I am proud to have secured these three CDS awards for New Jersey’s veterans.”
In Essex County, Booker took his staff to a movie in Newark at the Cityplex12 theater.
