By New Jersey Globe Staff, April 14 2023 2:12 pm

The two Republican State Senate candidates in the 4th district will face off in a debate on Tuesday, May 2, at 9 PM sponsored by the New Jersey Globe and Save Jersey.

Gloucester County Commissioner Nick DeSilvio and former Washington Township Councilman Chris Del Borello are seeking an open Senate seat in a newly-drawn district that includes parts of Gloucester, Camden, and Atlantic counties.

The incumbent,  Fred Madden (D-Washington Township), is retiring after 20 years as a state senator.  Assemblyman Paul Moriarty (D-Washington Township) is unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

The 4th district became more Republican in legislative redistricting.  Gov. Phil Murphy carried the old district by two percentage points, but under the new map, Republican Jack Ciattarelli won it by seven points.

David Wildstein, the editor of the New Jersey Globe, will moderate the debate, along with Matt Rooney, the editor of Save Jersey, a conservative news website.

It will be streamed live on the New Jersey Globe, Save Jersey, and on social media channels:

This is one of two Republican primary debates being sponsored jointly by the New Jersey Globe and Save Jersey.

Four Republican candidates for State Assembly in the 24th district — Lafayette Board of Education President Josh Aikens, Sussex County Commissioner Dawn Fantasia, Chester Mayor Mike Inganamort, and Warren County Commissioner Jason Sarnoski will debate on Thursday, April 27, at 8:30 PM.

Rooney is also hosting a debate for the 3rd district State Senate Republican primary candidates on his 1210 WPHT radio show on April 30.  Assemblywoman Beth Sawyer (R-Woolwich ) has accepted the invitation, but the GOP incumbent, State Sen. Ed Durr (R-Logan), has declined.
