Sue Altman is out with her first TV ad of the 12th congressional district campaign, a spot that highlights her time in the rough-and-tumble worlds of basketball and state politics to argue that she’d be a fighter against Donald Trump in Washington.
“[I went] up against Republicans like Chris Christie, crooked insurance companies and billionaires, or Trump’s cruel policies as Andy Kim’s state director – because that’s how you win,” Altman says in the ad, which her campaign said will be backed by an initial $35,000 ad buy this week.
Altman is one of the frontrunners in the 12-candidate Democratic primary to succeed retiring Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing). As of the last fundraising period, Altman was among the best-funded candidates in the race, giving her the ability to get her message out to more voters than some of her establishment-supported foes.
The message voters have likely been seeing the most in recent weeks, though, has come from a super PAC supporting rival candidate Adam Hamawy; the PAC, American Priorities, has already spent $1 million on pro-Hamawy ads.

Sue Altman: “When I stepped on the court, in college or the pros, I knew: nobody had more fight. Later, I brought that fight, going up against Republicans like Chris Christie, crooked insurance companies and billionaires, or Trump’s cruel policies as Andy Kim’s state director – because that’s how you win. I’m Sue Altman. I approve this message, because to abolish ICE, pass Medicare for All, stop Trump, we have to fight, and I am so ready for it.
