Democratic congressional candidate Sue Altman is slamming Sussex County Commissioner Bill Hayden for allegedly lying about his military record and is calling on him to resign.
“It’s sad but not surprising that a MAGA politician who has draped himself in the flag would so dishonor the people who risked their lives for our nation,” Altman said. “And the lies! Do these mini-Trump politicians think they can lie as often or as blatantly as Trump himself? Not here, not in New Jersey, not on our watch.”
Altman added, “As the Congresswoman for CD-7 I will represent this district by upholding the very democratic and patriotic principles our brave soldiers fight for: honesty, democracy, American leadership. He should resign immediately.”
Hayden’s Stolen Valor Scandal has triggered a harsh reputation from Democrats and Republicans from the left and the right. Reps. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield), Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff), and Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), State Sen. Parker Space (R-Wantage), Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia (R-Franklin), Assemblyman Mike Inganamort (R-Chester), First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the Sussex County Democratic and Republican leadership have pushed for Hayden’s resignation.
One of Hayden’s alleged lies: he claims he was part of a Navy SEAL team that assassinated drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.
So far, Hayden’s lone defender is controversial clodpoll Bill Winkler, a onetime GOP strategist who is on the outs with nearly every Republican official in Sussex County.
