Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) was named Thursday to a newly-formed House panel overseeing defense intelligence, counterterrorism and special operations forces, among other national security elements.
The second-term congresswoman will join the House Armed Services Committee’s Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittee in addition to keeping her seat on the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee
“I’m also honored to join the new Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittee,” she said. “It will be at the very forefront of our national security, responsible for counterterrorism, defense intelligence, special operations forces, and countering weapons of mass destruction. Through this subcommittee, I’ll be able to help ensure our nation’s safety and better promote democratic values across the world.”
The former U.S. Navy helicopter pilot’s district includes Picatinny Arsenal. Sherrill also served as a Russian policy officer.
“The Arsenal is one of our military’s foremost centers of innovation, making key advancements in armaments and munitions,” she said of the district’s largest employer. “I look forward to supporting Picatinny as it continues to lead the way in ensuring our service members have the best, most advanced equipment possible.”
