Dan Scharfenberger, who managed the successful campaign of Thomas Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield), is going to Washington with the new congressman from New Jersey’s 7th district.

Scharfenberger will serve as Kean’s communications director.

Kean, the former minority leader of the New Jersey State Senate, takes office on January 3 after unseating two-term Rep. Tom Malinowski last month.

The 25-year-old Republican strategist joined Kean’s team last year after serving as executive director of the Senate Republican Majority campaign committee.  The GOP elected Vincent Polistina (R-Egg Harbor Township), Edward Durr (R-Logan) and Jean Stanfield (R-Westampton) to the State Senate on his watch.

In 2020, Scharfenberger was the political director for Kean, who came within one percentage point of ousting Malinowski.
