John J. Flora, a Jersey City public school teacher challenging Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) in the Democratic primary, raised just $1,607 during the first three months of 2020 and now has $7,102 cash-on-hand.
Flora has raised $12,838 for his 10th district bid since entering the race last summer, and has spent $5,736 so far. All but $750 has come from contributions under $300.
His campaign is carrying a $5,000 debt from a loan Flora made to his own campaign.
Eugene Mazo, a Rutgers law professor also challenging Payne in the Democratic primary.
Payne won a 2012 special election to replace his late father, who held the seat for 24 years.
