Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), now the strong frontrunner in the 2024 Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, has picked up two more notable endorsements: Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund.
Pascrell, like most of his fellow New Jersey House Democrats, had originally supported First Lady Tammy Murphy for indicted Senator Bob Menendez’s seat. But with Murphy out of the race, Pascrell said he’s now pleased to back Kim instead.
“Some people say it’s better to be late to a great party than to miss it entirely,” Pascrell said last night. “In that spirit I’m delighted to endorse my colleague Congressman Andy Kim to be our great state’s next great US Senator. I thank Tammy Murphy for her own historic run. Our next Democratic government starts in New Jersey with the Biden-Kim ticket.”
Reps. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) and Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) similarly endorsed Kim yesterday; with progressive activists Larry Hamm and Patricia Campos-Medina as the only other Democratic candidates remaining, it’s likely that the rest of Kim’s House colleagues will soon follow suit.
The LCV, meanwhile, joins a bevy of other national groups like VoteVets and End Citizens United in supporting Kim.
“Andy Kim has been a critical ally in Congress as New Jersey leads the nation in building our clean energy economy,” New Jersey LCV Executive Director Ed Potosnak said. “New Jerseyans can be assured that in the Senate he will continue to advocate for protecting our coast, conserving our land, and a more just and equitable clean energy future for our state.”
