NJ-11 Libertarian candidate drops out, backs DeGroot

The Libertarian candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th district has dropped out of the race and endorsed Republican challenger Paul DeGroot in his bid to unseat two-term Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) in Tuesday’s election.

Joseph Biasco, a former Cliffside Park police captain who lives in Lincoln Park, will remain on the ballot — the deadline to drop out was in September — and any votes cast for him will be counted for him.

“This Election Day, we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to wipe out the radical left as we know it. But to do so, we need all hands on deck,” Biasco said.  “After meeting with Paul and his family, it was easy to see that he was a man of conviction and honesty. And unlike his opponent, Paul is not there for himself. He’s there for you.”

Biasco has positioned himself to the right of DeGroot on a number of issues.  He has called Joe Biden an “illegitimate” president and falsely states that Donald Trump was the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

“Neither of my opponents will dare speak these truths,” he said on his campaign website.

Biasco has also that COVID-19 was a conspiracy, and that vaccines caused autism.

“Does anyone actually believe that our intelligence apparatus is unable to pinpoint the origins of COVID? Does anyone find the timing of the virus suspicious? A Presidential election year with a President proving to be an existential threat to the New World Order and their maligned agenda,” Biasco has stated.  “A virus providing cover for causing unprecedented changes in the way our elections are held. The Constitution being subverted and judicial activists being the enablers.”

DeGroot, a former Assistant Passaic County Prosecutor, said that he knew Biasco “had always held America first and cared about this district.”
