The National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) released a 4th of July-themed digital ad today hitting Reps. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) and Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes), alongside 23 other vulnerable House Democrats, on high prices.
“Last year was the most expensive Fourth of July ever,” the ad’s narrator says. “This year, it’s even worse. Buns [up 9%], burgers [up 14%], propane [up 28%], gas [up 49%]. Democrats’ harmful economic policies are making everything more expensive, and there’s no end in sight. Tell Andy Kim: We can’t afford this.”
In New Jersey’s primary election earlier this month, national Republicans got their preferred nominee against both congressmen: businessman Bob Healey Jr. in Kim’s 3rd district, and former Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield) in Malinowski’s 7th district. Malinowski is widely regarded as an underdog for re-election, while Kim is viewed as a significant favorite but with upset potential from Healey.
“Democrats promised they’d get record inflation under control, but prices have only gone higher,” NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer (R-MN) said in a statement accompanying the ads. “This year’s 4th of July is the most expensive in history, and voters know Democrats are to blame.”
Notably missing from today’s list of targeted congresspeople is Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff), who represents the competitive 5th district. Nick De Gregorio, the national Republican choice to take on Gottheimer, lost his primary to 2020 nominee Frank Pallotta, who has yet to attract much outside interest or spending.
