Native New Jerseyan Matt Mowers is expected to announce on September 8 that he will again seek a congressional seat in New Hampshire in the 2022 midterm elections.

There has been little doubt that Mowers would seek a rematch against Rep. Christopher Pappas (D-New Hampshire) next year.  In his first bid for public office, Mowers held Pappas to a 51%-46% win last year.

Mowers, who served in the administrations of President Donald Trump and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, raised $182,320 from New Jersey donors in 2020.

Christie and his wife, Mary Pat, were among Mowers’ largest donors; each contributed $5,600.

If Mowers wins, it could strengthen Christie’s potential presidential candidacy in New Hampshire in 2024.

Mowers moved to New Hampshire after Christie’s 2013 re-election to become the executive director of the state Republican party.  He later ran Christie’s New Hampshire primary campaign,

He later joined the Trump campaign as National Field Coordinator & Battle Ground States Director.

Mowers served as the U.S. Department of State as a senior White House advisor and as chief of staff and chief policy officer in the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator and Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy.

He began his political career as a teenager working for State Sen. Gerald Cardinale (R-Demarest).

There is no shortage of Republicans lining up to take on Pappas in President Joe Biden’s midterm election year, including New Hampshire Senate President Chuck Mores, former White House Assistant Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, State Rep. Tim Baxter, and former state Health Commissioner John Stephen, the 2010 GOP gubernatorial nominee.
