Michael Roth, one of the eight Democrats competing to unseat Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield) in New Jersey’s 7th congressional district, raised $147,468 in the 3rd quarter of 2025, 84% of which he said came from New Jersey donors.

Roth has now raised a total of $450,000 since launching his campaign in April; his campaign had $290,302 on-hand as of the end of September.

“I’m humbled that the overwhelming majority of support this quarter came from the people who call New Jersey home. Because this has always been a race about New Jersey, and what our future can hold if we work together,” Roth said in a statement. “This campaign isn’t fueled by special interests or Washington insiders. It’s powered by the people who live, work, and raise their families here.”

Roth is far from the only candidate raising hundreds of thousands of dollars in the 7th district, one of the most evenly divided districts in the nation.

The top Democratic fundraiser is former Navy helicopter pilot Rebecca Bennett, who has raised more than $1.3 million in eight months of campaigning. Businessman Brian Varela has raised just over $1 million, though more than half of that was self-funded; physician Tina Shah and climate scientist Megan O’Rourke, both of whom entered the race during the most recent quarter, have raised $604,000 and $247,000, respectively.

Three other Democratic candidates – former Summit Councilman Greg Vartan, attorney Vale Mendoza, and criminal justice professor Beth Adubato – have not yet released their 3rd quarter fundraising numbers.

As for Kean, the two-term congressman is well ahead of his would-be Democratic opponents for now; he raised $667,000 in Q3 and is sitting on nearly $2 million.
