Bob Menendez’s chief of staff, Jason Tuber, is leaving this month to take a private sector job, ending a stint of nearly nineteen years with the senior U.S. Senator from New Jersey.
Tuber’s departure comes while Menendez is on trial for federal corruption charges, and just as he begins to run for re-election as an independent.
He is joining PIM Brands, a brand name snack foods licensee based out of his hometown of Park Ridge. The company makes fruit snacks for Welch’s, Sour Jacks, Gummi candies, and Sun-Maid chocolate raisins. Tuber is taking a government relations position, the New Jersey Globe has learned.
He has worked in the U.S. Senate since graduating from Colgate University in 2005; he worked the front desk in Jon Corzine’s Washington office and fielded telephone calls from constituents.
After Corzine was elected governor and appointed Menendez to fill his seat, Tuber became one of Menendez’s first staffers. He worked in the mailroom before taking on a series of policy positions, and in 2021, as the chief of staff to one of the most powerful people on Capitol Hill.
Since Menendez’s indictment last September, his Senate staff has seen a massive number of departures. That’s not out of the ordinary when it appears the incumbent is not seeking re-election.
