With just two weeks to go until the February 5 special Democratic primary, Analilia Mejia has picked up the support of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East in her bid to be the 11th congressional district’s next congresswoman.

“Analilia Mejia has been a leader over many years in the most consequential fights improving the lives of New Jersey’s working families,” 1199SEIU Executive Vice President Andy Cassagnol said in a statement yesterday. “From paid sick leave, the Fight for $15, organizing the Women’s March, fighting for immigrant justice, workers’ rights, and healthcare, Analilia has moved mountains in New Jersey.”

1199SEIU is the largest health care union in the country, according to the union, and represents around 8,000 New Jersey nursing home, hospital, and pharmacy workers.

Mejia, a former labor organizer, has garnered endorsements from many of the state’s most progressive unions, among them Communications Workers of America District 1, 32BJ SEIU, and the SEIU New Jersey State Council. One other candidate in the crowded 11th district field, Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill (D-Montclair), has also gotten a sizable amount of labor support.
