Manalapan goes for Kim in U.S. Senate race

On eve of Monmouth Democratic convention, big town says they’ll back hometown congressman

Manalapan Democrats today endorsed Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) for U.S. Senate, suggesting that he’ll sweep all 37 of their delegates to tomorrow’s Monmouth County Democratic convention.

The announcement was made jointly by Manalapan Democratic Municipal Chair Susan Meltsner on behalf of the county committee and the local Democratic Club.

“From our first encounters with Andy during his 2022 campaign in our newly redistricted town through his time as our congressman; at Townhall meetings where he fielded tough questions with patience, compassion, and on-point answers, and at work in DC, the congressman has shown himself to be someone we could trust and rely on to do what’s right for all of us, for our families and for the communities where we live,” Meltsner said.

Kim has released relatively few public endorsements in Monmouth, which is believed to be a close contest to award the organization line.

There are no runoffs in Monmouth, so the candidate that receives the most votes will get the party endorsement.  That means two others, former Newark school board member Lawrence Hamm and activist Patricia Campos-Medina, could emerge as spoilers if they pull votes from Kim.

“As we look toward the convention tomorrow, I am honored to continue building momentum with this endorsement from the Manalapan Dems, a town I am proud to represent and fight for every day in Congress,” said Kim.  “They have witnessed first-hand what I have been able to accomplish and deliver for them as their congressman, and so I thank them for the trust they have placed in me to represent the entire state as senator.”
