An investigation into a surveillance video showing a woman wearing a U.S. Postal Service uniform tossing bins of mailers supporting Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) into a dumpster outside a Shop-Rite in Pennsylvania last month continues.
The post office’s Office of the Inspector has taken over the probe.
“At this time, the USPS OIG has an ongoing investigation,” said Jonathan Jimenez, a spokesman for the inspector general’s office.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, was seen taking the Kean mailers from the trunk of her car. The flyers had been intended to go to voters in Roxbury.
“We saw her dump it,” a security company official working for the supermarket told the New Jersey Globe.”
The New Jersey Globe confirmed that the postal worker has been removed from the Succasunna Post Office.
In 2020, Nicholas Beuchene, a 26-year-old letter carrier from Kearny, pleaded guilty to charges that he disposed of a large quantity of mail, including roughly 200 vote-by-mail ballots sent to West Orange, into a dumpster in North Arlington.
In that instance, the U.S. Attorney in New Jersey charged him within two days.
Kean was re-elected to a second term on November 5.
