In Senate race to beat Booker, GOP donors aren’t opening their wallets

No GOP candidate reported raising more than $10k from donors; Booker has $22 million on-hand

New Jersey Republicans landed four candidates for the U.S. Senate against Cory Booker this year, but based on their most recent fundraising reports, donors don’t seem to be aware of that.

The best-funded candidate is also the one without any county party endorsements: Robert Lebovics, a physician from Bergen County. Lebovics reported raising $101,260, but $100,000 of that came from his own pockets, and he’s already spent most of it.

Two other candidates, former Tabernacle Committeeman Justin Murphy and former News 12 reporter Alex Zdan, have each raised less than $10,000: Murphy, who’s been in the race the longest, has raised $9,709, while Zdan has raised $7,379.

Lastly, there’s State Trooper Richard Tabor, who hasn’t filed any fundraising reports at all, even though the filing deadline was last night. When asked about the lack of filing, Tabor said it would be a question for his treasurer.

Booker, for his part, raised $1,337,125 in the 1st quarter and is sitting on a $22,171,570 campaign warchest.

Members of both parties don’t view Booker as especially beatable, but the U.S. Senate race will be at the top of the ticket in New Jersey this year, raising the stakes for Republicans to find a nominee who can carry their weight.
