Bob Grace, a Democrat who lost his bid for re-election to the Dennis Township Committee one year before Jeff Van Drew ran for the same office and won, died on January 18. He was 77. Grace, who served more than 30 years in the New Jersey National Guard, was former Dennis mayor and school board member. Grace sought a comeback in 2007 as a Republican but lost by 118 votes to Democrats backed by Van Drew.
Jerry Ritz, who served as a Park Ridge councilman from 1971 to 1975, died on January 6. He was 85. Ritz is a U.S. Army veteran.
Samuel Alderisio, a former Mahwah councilman, died on January 17. He was 75. Alderisio served sixteen years as the Mahwah police chief and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Claire DiDomenico, the daughter-in-law of the late Bayonne Mayor Thomas DiDomenico, died on January 16. She was 83.
