Joe Hathaway has raised $657,711 in his bid for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th district, but the Morris County Republican enters the general election with just $5,036 cash on hand after spending heavily on three previous campaigns over the last nine months.
Hathaway’s second-quarter report reflects fundraising for the entire 2026 cycle, which began last October and included a February primary and an April special election to replace Mikie Sherrill, who resigned after her election as governor.
Most of his fundraising was spent on the April special election, which Democrat Analilia Mejia won by a 60%-39% margin.
Between May 14 and June 30, Hathaway raised $33,479 and reported carrying $11,452 in debt.
The Randolph councilman and former mayor entered the race last October, saying he was prepared to challenge Sherrill if she lost the gubernatorial election to Republican Jack Ciattarelli. He faced no Republican primary opposition this year.
Hathaway will get a rematch with Mejia in November after she cruised to victory in the June Democratic primary and secured the nomination for her first full term in Congress.
