Hathaway goes up with first digital ad of NJ-11 special election

Republican nominee touts record in Randolph, emphasizes bipartisanship

A little under a month before Election Day in the special election for New Jersey’s 11th congressional district, GOP nominee Joe Hathaway is up with his first digital ad.

Hathaway, a councilman and former mayor in Randolph, uses the ad to tout his record of lowering taxes, his belief in bipartisanship, and his own growing family. “I’ve had many titles: mayor, workhorse, chief diaper changer,” he says in the ad, which will be backed by a six-figure buy, according to his campaign.

Voters will head to the polls on April 16 to decide whether Hathaway or Democratic nominee Analilia Mejia, whom Hathaway slams as a “radical,” will go to Congress to replace Gov. Mikie Sherrill.

Unlike the special primary election, which featured 11 Democratic candidates and millions of dollars of spending, the general election has so far been relatively quiet, though that may change as more voters tune into the race. The 11th district leans towards Democrats, and Mejia released an internal poll yesterday giving her a substantial lead.

Script:
Joe Hathaway: “I’ve had many titles: mayor, workhorse, chief diaper changer. That’s why I’m running for Congress – to change Washington. As mayor, working with both parties, I saved taxpayers more than a million dollars. Being independent isn’t dirty to me. My opponent’s title? Radical. Mejia’s plans would take away your doctor, and my daughter’s too. I won’t let that happen.”
