Harry Hurley backs Curtis Bashaw for U.S. Senate

Prominent radio personality rarely makes public endorsements

Harry Hurley, a hugely influential South Jersey radio talk show host, today endorsed Curtis Bashaw for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination.

The public show of support comes one day before Bashaw seeks the organization line at the Atlantic County GOP convention.

“I have taken the rare step of endorsing a candidate for elective office,” Hurley said  “At this stage of my career, I almost never endorse candidates.  I am making an exception in Curtis’ case because of his background in business and industry… Bashaw has created thousands of jobs and successfully restored America’s oldest seaside resort, Congress Hall.”

Hurley said he typically saves his personal endorsements for “special candidates like Congressman Jeff Van Drew, Senator Vince Polistina, Senator Michael Testa, and Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson.”

“Bashaw knows exactly what to do to represent New Jersey’s interests at the highest level,” said the host of the morning drive-time show on WPG Talk Radio.

Hurley predicted the general election matchup would be Bashaw vs. Tammy Murphy.

“That may decide which major political party has the majority in the United States Senate,” he said.

Bashaw is favored in Atlantic, which would be his first convention win.  Mendham Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner has won organization lines in Hunterdon, Union, and Morris counties.

The race includes seven other candidates, including former News 12 New Jersey reporter Alex Zdan.
