Gottheimer: ‘This was not a peaceful protest — this was an insurrection’

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff), the co-chairman of the House Problem Solvers Caucus, today condemned protestors who launched an insurgence in a bid to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden as the winner of the presidential election against the incumbent, Donald Trump.

“The behavior we witnessed in the U.S. Capitol is entirely un-American. This was not a peaceful protest – this was an insurrection,” Gottheimer said.  “These individuals should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The statement was issued jointly with House Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chairman Tom Reed (R-New York) and a bi-partisan group of ten U.S. Senators.

The American people can rest assured that we will finish our work, certify the results of the 2020 election, and ensure a peaceful transition of power,” said Gottheimer, a three-term congressman.  “Our democracy is stronger than the destructive behavior of any mob and will survive today’s egregious behavior.”
