GOP super PAC releases ad hitting Altman on taxes

The ads say taxes would increase for New Jerseyans with Altman in Congress

A major Republican super PAC released an ad attacking Sue Altman over previous tweets and calls for tax increases.

The spot isn’t the first from the Congressional Leadership Fund —the group launched an ad earlier this month hitting Altman on taxes, law enforcement, and drug policy. The new ad, which comes in 15-second and 30-second versions, says taxes for New Jerseyans will increase should “radical” Sue Altman reach Congress.

In “Taxes, Taxes, Taxes,” the super PAC, which is allied with House Republican leadership, prominently feature a 2020 tweet from Altman in which the Democrat called on Amazon to “PAY TAXES.” Her tweet was in response to a Seattle Times article about a $2.7 million donation Amazon made to Seattle-area schools to help families facing hunger and homelessness. Altman said, “I am so over corporate ‘philanthropy.’ It’s a PR sham.”

Altman is locked in a tight congressional campaign with Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield), who is seeking reelection in New Jersey’s tightest federal race.

Script for 30-second version: “‘Pay taxes, pay taxes, pay taxes.’ That’s radical Sue Altman, and that’s Altman’s solution for everything. While inflation skyrocketed, Altman repeatedly called for raising middle-class taxes, obsessed with making us pay more. Altman even supported the radical plan to raise taxes over $3 billion a year.  What would we do with Sue Altman in Congress? ‘Pay taxes, pay taxes, pay taxes.’”

The district has seen an influx of outside spending in the last month. The Democratic-aligned House Majority PAC announced earlier this week that it would spend $4 million to help Altman in the 7th, but the group only made the move after much pressure from Democratic observers who wondered why Altman was receiving little outside help.

The CLF did not immediately say how much it is spending to air the ad on TV and digital platforms.
