As he faces a serious Democratic primary challenge, freshman Rep. Robert J. Menendez (D-Jersey City) has won the endorsement of the Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey.
“His unwavering commitment to our communities’ well-being and firefighters’ safety has been evident in his legislative efforts and advocacy, said Matt Caliente, the union president. “He will continue to be a strong voice for us in Congress, and we look forward to working together to ensure the best possible outcomes for the residents and first responders of the 8th congressional district and beyond.”
Menendez faces Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla and newcomer Kyle Jasey in the June primary. Bhalla has raised over $1 million, and Menendez is battling the effects of the indictment against his father, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez.
“In Congress, I have supported the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act and other significant legislation to help PFANJ members and first responders across the country,” Menendez said. “Our firefighters, EMTs, first responders, and their families deserve our dedication and our support, and they will always have mine.”
