U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and top deputies are making a visit to New York and North Jersey for a spate of Gateway-focused events Monday.
They’ll be joined by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), whose congressional campaigns have lent great attention to infrastructure and the crumbling tunnels that run beneath the Hudson River.
Their day will start with a 10:30 a.m. ride through existing tunnels, following by a press conference with Buttigieg, Schumer, Sherrill and other representatives.
That’ll be followed by a closed-door meeting on infrastructure projects with Buttigieg and the state’s congressional delegation.
The visit comes after Senate Republicans and President Joe Biden’s administration reached a fragile deal on a $1.2 trillion infrastructure spending plan.
