Brady PAC backs Pascrell for re-election

Pascrell facing primary challenge from Prospect Park mayor this year

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) unveiled an endorsement today from Brady PAC, a top anti-gun violence group, in his bid for re-election in the 9th congressional district.

“Bill Pascrell is the top leader in New Jersey on so many issues, including gun violence prevention,” Brady PAC executive director Ashley Lantz said in a statement. “He has been leading the fight to end gun violence since his first day in office, and when we’ve made meaningful progress – such as passing the landmark Bipartisan Safer Communities Act in 2022 – it has been with Bill Pascrell leading the charge against NRA-aligned colleagues who have fealty to the gun industry over actual human lives. We can’t wait to work with Bill Pascrell for another term in office and make more progress.”

Pascrell is facing a primary challenge this year from Prospect Park Mohamed Khairullah, who was recruited to run due to frustration from the 9th district’s Arab and Muslim communities over Pascrell’s response to the war in Gaza.

While a federal judge’s recent decision overturning the county organizational line may have provided a boost to Khairullah’s candidacy, most prominent Democrats – including Gov. Phil Murphy and all three country Democratic parties in the 9th district – are sticking resolutely behind Pascrell, who should be in little danger of losing the primary.
