Booker names Park as N.J. press secretary

Ex-Bergen Record reporter joins U.S. Senate staff

Minjae Park, a former Bergen Record reporter, is U.S. Senator Cory Booker’s new press secretary for New Jersey.

“Minjae shares my deep commitment to public service and helping the people of New Jersey,” Booker said.  “His skills, experience, and values make him a great addition to my team in Newark.”

Park spent three years at The (Bergen) Record, leaving in 2016, just after Gannett purchased the once notable daily newspaper from Malcolm Borg and his family.   He avoided massive layoffs that included 130 reporter and newsroom positions and nearly 300 more sales and staff posts.

Instead, Park joined Audible, the Newark-based audiobook and podcast company, as a communications researcher.  He moved up within the company and has spent the last 20 months as a strategic advisor to Audible founder and Montclair resident Donald Katz.

A graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, Park currently resides in Newark.

Park is replacing the indefatigable Tom Pietrykoski, who left after seven years in Booker’s staff for a top post at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
