U.S. Senator Cory Booker will kick off his annual Jersey Summer Road Trip on Friday, where he’ll traverse the state over the next seven-days and visit all 21 New Jersey counties.
His Friday schedule begins with an announcement of legislation to combat the fentanyl crisis at the New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus. He’ll be joined by Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff), Bergen County Executive James Tedesco and the New Bridge Medical Center CEO, Deborah Visconi.
From there, Booker heads to Warren County Community College, where he and County Commissioner Lori Ciesla, a Republican, will discuss a $699,000 congressional appropriation for the Precision Agriculture Technology Project, a program developed by the college to “develop farm management techniques that ensure crops and soil receive precise chemicals and land management to ensure farm profitability and sustainability.”
Along with Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage, Rep. Robert J. Menendez (D-Jersey City), Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 Administrator Lisa Garcia and local officials, Booker will be in Elizabeth to talk about programs that monitor and enhance air quality in underserved communities funded by the Inflation Reduction Act.
Booker began his tradition of crisscrossing the state a decade ago after winning a special election that followed the death of Frank R. Lautenberg.
“My summer road trips are among the great joys of this job that New Jersey first elected me to nearly 10 years ago,” Booker stated. “Hearing from people across our state fills me with energy and determination to fight every day for justice and opportunity for all New Jerseyans.”
Over the next week, Booker will focus on his efforts to direct federal funding for New Jersey projects, fighting gun violence, paying tribute to veterans, and supporting local business and organizations.
He’ll end the tour in his hometown of Newark, where he served as mayor from 2006 to 2013, on August 31 at a forum on strategies to combat community violence with the New Jersey Urban Mayors Association.
