Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton has endorsed First Lady Tammy Murphy for U.S. Senate, becoming the latest in a flood of Bergen County Democrats to back the first lady.
“As a lifelong resident of Bergen County, I know that Tammy is deeply familiar with our families, our communities, and most importantly, she understands how to best address our concerns,” Cureton said in a statement. “Tammy has proven herself to be an effective leader and change maker particularly with her work to improve the complex issue of maternal and infant health in our communities of color. I am confident that Tammy will best represent New Jersey’s families in Washington and I am proud to endorse her for U.S. Senate.”
Murphy previously received endorsements from Bergen County Democratic Chairman Paul Juliano, nine of the county’s Democratic state legislators, and nearly every countywide officeholder. She’s the heavy favorite to win the county Democratic line against her main primary opponent, Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), for the seat currently held by indicted Senator Bob Menendez.
