Hotelier Curtis Bashaw has won the Mercer County Republican organization line for U.S. Senate, defeating former News 12 New Jersey reporter Alex Zdan, 78-24.
Two other candidates, former Tabernacle Deputy Mayor Justin Michael Murphy and U.S. Navy veteran Albert Harshaw, also competed for the Mercer GOP endorsement.
Mendham Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner opted not to participate in tonight’s Mercer convention. She received one vote.
Four years ago, Mercer County made up 2.3% of the total votes cast in Republican primary statewide.
Donald Trump easily secured the Mercer County GOP line, defeating Nikki Haley, 117-7, with former Gov Chris Christie receiving just four votes.
Bashaw has scored organization lines in Atlantic, Ocean, Cumberland, Camden and Somerset counties. Serrano Glassner has lines in Hunterdon, Morris, Union and Warren, and Zdan has them in Monmouth and Passaic.
Zdan lives in Robbinsville.
Middlesex Republicans will hold their convention tomorrow night. Bashaw won a screening committee vote last month.
