Republican U.S. Senate candidate Curtis Bashaw has endorsed Donald Trump for President.
“I support and endorse President Trump to take back our country as I fight to take back this Senate seat for New Jersey families and taxpayers,” Bashaw told the New Jersey Globe this morning. I wouldn’t have gotten into this race if didn’t support Donald Trump.”
Bashaw’s endorsement comes on the day he was supposed to face GOP primary rival Christine Serrano Glassner in a debate. Bashaw backed out of the debate last Friday.
Serrano Glassner, the mayor of Mendham, slammed Basaw for being a pretend Trumper.
“Curtis ‘Bacaw’ Bashaw spent the better part of the last eight years opposing Trump at every turn. After one tough headline, Curtis abandoned his position and now pretends to be a Trump supporter,” Serrano Glassner said. “What do you think a spineless coward like that will do in the general election? We can’t trust him – today proves that he will sell out New Jersey Republicans to benefit his own political ambitions, just like the Democrats he has been supporting for decades.”
In 2016, Bashaw backed former Gov. Chris Christie and then Libertarian Gary Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico, over Trump. Four years later, Bashaw supported a letter calling Trump “a real threat to democracy.” He contributed $3,300 to Christie’s 2024 presidential campaign.
He’s told Republicans he voted for Trump despite personal campaign contributions and public statements opposing him.
Today is his first public display of support for Trump, although he’s told some small Republican groups that he would vote for him.
Christie is involved in Bashaw’s campaign; Serrano Glassner is married to Michael Glassner, a top Trump campaign advisor since 2015.
