Seven New Jersey House members will headline a high-dollar fundraiser for Rep. Robert J. Menendez (D-Jersey City) next week in Washington.
The presence of his New Jersey colleagues, along with Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland), shows support from the delegation of Menendez’s own re-election in the weeks following his father’s indictment on charges of bribery, conspiracy, and illegally acting as an unregistered agent on the Egyptian government.
The only New Jersey congressman not on the host list is Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown). Kim announced his bid to challenge Menendez’s father, Bob, in the 2024 Democratic U.S. Senate primary the day after the indictments were initially unsealed.
The freshman congressman has $433,244 in his campaign warchest and needs to ramp up his fundraising to defend himself against a possible challenge in the Democratic primary.
Menendez’s event is scheduled to be held at the offices of The Frost Group, a Washington-based campaign and PAC fundraising group.
Tickets go from $1,000 per person to $5,000.
