Ali thinks Wallace’s ‘time to take turns’ ruling on redistricting should apply to Carchman

Citing a ruling by former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice John E. Wallace, Jr., Morris County Republican Chair Laura Marie Ali has declared victory on the upcoming legislative redistricting.

“Today a major precedent was set,” Ali said in a statement slamming the redistricting tiebreaker.  “The supposedly unbiased tie-breaker (Wallace)… declared that the reason for casting his tie breaking vote for a democrat drawn mapped that favored Democrats in nine congressional districts to a paltry three for Republicans, was ‘It’s time to take turns.’

In his statement today, Wallace said that “in the end, I decided to vote for the Democratic map simply because the last redistricting map was drawn by the Republicans.”

Ali’s tongue-in-cheek statement refers to tiebreakers siding with Democrats on legislative redistricting in 2001 and 2011.

“After all it was the Democrats turn the last time around back in 2010 so with today’s reasoning, this time it will be our turn,” she said.
