Rep. Robert J. Menendez (D-Jersey City) has won the endorsement of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees International Union (AFSCME) New Jersey Council 63 for his re-election bid.
“Rob Menendez has a proven record of supporting the services that AFSCME members provide for the people in the 8th District, and he has been a champion for organized labor in New Jersey,” said Steven Tully, the AFSCME NJ Council 63 Executive Director.
Menendez faces a primary challenge from Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla.
“New Jersey would not function without the thousands of dedicated AFSCME members that support it every day,” Menendez said. “I always stand with our working families, our unions, and our public employees. In Congress, I will keep working tirelessly to introduce legislation that seeks to uplift all our residents – such as the PRO Act and the Working Families Task Force Act.”
Menendez and Bhalla will face off in their first debate on Sunday, May 5 at 8 PM. The debate is sponsored by the New Jersey Globe, On New Jersey, and Rider University.
