The health care union District 1199J, National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees, today announced its endorsement of Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) for U.S. Senate.
“Congressman Kim is a fierce advocate for working families and we are certain that he will continue to be on the right side of issues that matter to our members and all New Jerseyans when he becomes a Senator,” 1199J President Susan Cleary said in a statement.
The union, which represents over 9,000 health care and public employees in New Jersey, specifically cited Kim’s support for striking nurses and his Supporting Our First Responders Act as evidence of his solidarity with union workers.
Kim faces two opponents in next Tuesday’s Democratic primary, activists Patricia Campos-Medina and Larry Hamm; Campos-Medina’s background is in organized labor, but most unions have opted to support Kim instead. If Kim eventually wins the November general election, he’ll succeed incumbent Senator Bob Menendez, who is currently on trial on federal bribery charges.
