New Jerseyans have already cast 825,382 ballots for next week’s general election, about 12.6% of all registered voters in the state, according to an analysis by VoteHub.

That number increases to 13.5% when inactive voters are removed from the registration tally.

Of those who have already voted, either by mail-in ballot or in person at a machine, the electorate is 54.4% Democratic, 28% Republican, and 17.6% unaffiliated or independent.

A total of 514,180 vote-by-mail ballots have already been returned; that’s 55% of all ballots mailed by county clerks banked.   Of those, 321,647 (62.6%) are from Democrats, 108,279 (21.1%) from Republicans, and 84,254 (16.4%) from unaffiliated or independent voters

Democrats have a significant advantage in mail-in ballots: 57% of the requested ballots came from Democrats and 20% from Republicans.  Both parties are returning VBMs at a relatively consistent rate: 60.2% for Democrats, 58.6% for Republicans, and 36.6% for unaffiliateds and independents.

VoteHub reports that 311,202 voters cast in-person machine ballots during the first four days of New Jersey’s nine-day early voting period.  That universe is 41% Democratic, 39.4% Republican, and 19.6% unaffiliated and independent.
