New Jersey voters have returned 240,190 mail-in ballots for the November 7 general election, an impressive 26.5% of all sent VBMS already cast with 20 more days to go, according to an analysis by Ryan Dubicki, an Associated Press election researcher.
That means 3.7% of all registered voters have already voted in an election that could determine control of both houses of the New Jersey Legislature. Democrats have returned more than three times as many vote-by-mail ballots as Republicans.
Statewide, 66% of all returns vote-by-mail ballots come from Democrats and 22% from Republicans.
Camden County ranks first on returned VBMS with 30,116 – that’s 12.5% of all votes cast across the state so far. Middlesex is on Camden’s heels with 27,917 (11.6%).
Some numbers from key legislative districts:
2nd: 29% of all mailed ballots returned; 65% from Democrats, 25% from Republicans
3rd: 38% of all mailed ballots returned; 69% from Democrats, 20% from Republicans.
4th: 34% of all mailed ballots returned; 68% from Democrats, 21% from Republicans
8th: 33% of all mailed ballots returned; 63% from Democrats, 27% from Republicans
11th: 34% of all mailed ballots returned; 67% from Democrats 18% from Republicans
14th: 31% of all mailed ballots returned; 67% from Democrats, 19% from Republicans
16th: 27% of all mailed ballots returned; 63% from Democrats, 22% from Republicans
38th: 29% of all mailed ballots returned; 68% from Democrats, 18% from Republicans
