Matthew Marino will drop his bid for the Democratic State Assembly nomination in the 25th district and will support the candidates selected by Morris County Democrats.
Marino, a Bernardsville resident, had won the Somerset County Democratic organization line to take on incumbents Brian Bergen (R-Denville) and Aura Dunn (R-Mendham).
About 96% of the Democratic primary votes are cast in Morris County, where Democrats have picked Mountain Lakes Deputy Mayor Lauren Barnett and former Wharton Councilwoman Patricia Veres to challenge Bergen and Dunn.
An English teacher at the Gill St. Bernards School, Marino says he will rally behind the party slate at tomorrow’s Morris County Democratic convention.
“I’m going to make an appearance. Ultimately, I’m going to end up bowing out gracefully and giving my support to the Morris County slate,” Marino said. “I’m a team player.”
Somerset County Democrats will award their line to Barnett and Veres for Assembly and will back Morris Township Mayor Jeff Grayzel in his bid to unseat State Sen. Anthony M. Bucco (R-Boonton).
