Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop on Tuesday released the third ad of his gubernatorial campaign as the race to succeed Gov. Phil Murphy picks up steam.
In “Fearless Crusader,” a narrator touts Fulop as an anti-establishment leader who will govern for people instead of political bosses. The ad is a who’s who of controversial Jersey politicians—Fulop highlights previous critiques of disgraced former Senator Bob Menendez and South Jersey Democratic powerbroker George Norcross.
“There is nobody in Trenton that has my track record of standing up to these power brokers on the side of the people,” Fulop said in a press release. “Your voice deserves to be heard and I will continue to fight for what’s right for you and your families as Governor.”
The release did not specify how much Fulop’s campaign would spend on airing the commercial. Fulop is qualified for the full match, which will give him $8.7 million to spend on the primary—not including super PACs and independent expenditures.
Script: “He was the only Democrat willing to challenge then-Congressman Bob Menendez. As a mayor, Steve Fulop earned a reputation for standing up to party bosses.
He came after South Jersey powerbroker George Norcross and his unholy alliance with Chris Christie to break up union contracts, and Fulop was one of the first to call for expelling Bob Menendez.
A fearless crusader against old-guard politics. A governor on nobody’s side but ours.”
