Hugin to Democratic House members: ‘You better freaking run scared this year because we’re coming after you’

GOP State Chairman says GOP is ready for general election fight

Republican State Chairman Bob Hugin has a message for New Jersey Democrats running in the November mid-term election.

“You better freaking run scared this year because we’re coming after you,” Hugin said.  “Your votes to support Speaker Pelosi, your votes to support President Biden, they’re going to come home to roost because they’re devastating families in New Jersey.  Governor Murphy clearly is helping us.”

Higher than usual turnout among New Jersey Republicans in Tuesday’s primary election – a 25% increase over 2018 – and a concern over inflation, taxes and gas prices is a harbinger of opportunities to flip Democratic congressional seats in the November mid-term elections, Hugin said on a conference call with reporters.

Hugin said that several Democrats are vulnerable this year, including the usual list of targets – Tom Malinowski, Andy Kim, Josh Gottheimer and Mikie Sherrill – but he declined to put them in order of their vulnerability.

“Republicans have a very significant tailwind.,” he said.  “Democrats have a bad problem. They have a split party.  They’re progressives on one on one end, thinking we should be putting people in jail if they don’t drive an electric vehicle or they or kowtow  to the political elite, telling them what to teach their kids in kindergarten and how they should raise their children.”

Hugin also lambasted an attempt to Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) to run as the Moderate Party candidate in addition to being the Democratic nominee

“It is just the desperate, embarrassing tactic by a candidate who is who has failed the ethics test on so many ways has failed the people of his district is a puppet for Pelosi,” Hugin said.  “It’s time for him to go and his desperate tactics are going to have very little traction or merit.”

The Democratic state chairman, LeRoy Jones, Jr., today accused Republicans of expressing “views are incredibly out of touch with the people of New Jersey by pushing abortion bans, refusing the critical need for common sense gun safety legislation, and even failing to properly address the national baby formula crisis.”

“The challenges we face as a party from the right have never been more pronounced and, together, we are strong. But we will need every ounce of that strength to stand against the rhetorical liberties and fear-mongering that have become the commonplace weapons of choice from our opponents,” Jones said in an email.  “We need to stand strong and we need to stand together.”
