Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop raised about $70,000 for Senate Democrats on Wednesday night, bringing his total fundraising for Democratic legislative candidates in the 2023 midterm elections to $250,000.
Fulop’s event in Weehawken was co-hosted by Union City Mayor/State Sen. Brian P. Stack and Craig Guy, who will almost certainly become the next Hudson County Executive.
Senate President Nicholas Scutari was in attendance.
“I want to thank Mayor Fulop, Senator Stack, and Craig Guy for not only hosting this very successful event but for the strong commitment they have demonstrated throughout this critical election cycle to help Democrats retain control of the state legislature,” Scutari stated. “The stakes are high in this election, and it is important to defeat Republican candidates trying to roll back the progress New Jersey has made.”
Fulop is the lone announced candidate for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 2025. Raising money for legislative candidates has become part of the early audition process for those who want to succeed term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy. Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) and Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) have been raising money for their party’s candidates.
“We’ve worked hard to help ensure that Democratic candidates for State Senate and Assembly have the resources they need to win next week and keep New Jersey moving in the right direction,” Fulop said. “I want to thank Mayor Stack and Craig Guy for their partnership in making it possible for us to provide such a strong level of support for Democratic candidates across the state.”
