ELEC moves up public disclosure of campaign finance reports

The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission has decided to speed up its release of 11-day pre-election reports,  dramatically reducing the six-day lag time that had previously been announced and increasing transparency to the public on who is funding campaigns and political committees.

The deadline to file is tomorrow, October 27.

Reports filed by 5 PM will be available by 7 PM; reports filed after 5 PM will be released by 10 AM on Monday morning.

The original release date was November 2.

Beginning today, 72-hour and 24-hour pre-election reports will be released three times a day: 10 AM, 1 PM and 5 PM.

The move signals an intent by the four newly-seated ELEC board members – Tom Prol, Ryan Peters, Jon Henry-Barr, and Norma Evans – to improve timely access to campaign data to the public and shed greater sunlight on the funders of political campaigns.
