Boosted by record-breaking fundraising efforts, the Democratic National Committee will make a five-figure contribution to New Jersey Democrats to help fund the state party’s GOTV efforts to elect Andy Kim to the U.S. Senate, along with Democratic House, county, and municipal candidates over the next 38 days.
“The investment we’re announcing today in the New Jersey Democratic Party shows these priorities in action,” said Democratic National Chairman Jaime Harrison. “New Jersey Democrats will ensure working families can get ahead, while standing up to Trump and Republicans’ extreme agenda to rip away Americans’ most fundamental rights.”
Kamala Harris is the strong favorite to carry New Jersey and its fourteen electoral votes; Donald Trump’s bid to compete in a state that hasn’t gone Republican in a presidential race since 1988 never materialized.
“With Vice President Harris at the helm and record-breaking investments in coordinated campaigns, the DNC and Democratic state parties across the country have the momentum to strengthen coordinated operations in the critical final stretch to November to deliver wins for Democrats and all New Jerseyans,” Harrison stated.
Kim, a three-term congressman and former Obama White House staffer, faces hotelier Curtis Bashaw for the seat held by George Helmy – and for nearly nineteen years before that, by Democrat Bob Menendez. Republicans haven’t won a U.S. Senate seat in New Jersey since 1972; 48 other states have elected a GOP U.S. Senator since then, with only Hawaii enjoying a longer winning streak.
The most competitive House race in the state is in the 7th district, where Democrat Sue Altman, a former teacher, professional basketball player, and activist, is seeking to unseat freshman Rep. Thomas Kean, Jr. (D-Westfield).
Harrison announced his contribution to New Jersey Democrats as part of a plan to help fund state parties in all 50 states, plus an additional seven territories for the first time in one campaign cycle.
“The NJDSC welcomes the DNC’s investments and the recognition that New Jersey has a critical role to play in the 2024 election cycle,” said New Jersey Democratic State Chairman LeRoy Jones, Jr. “We look forward to delivering New Jersey for VP Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz, and doing our part to hold the Senate and flip the House in November.”
Harrison said the national party wants to ensure that “Democrats have the resources to run competitive races across the map in red and blue states alike.”
